Japan Tour - Concerts in Tokyo
GINZA International Jazz Festival 2, 3 et 4 novembre 2006

![[01006a.jpg]](foto_japon/v_jap01006a.jpg) All begins on Tuesday October 30 with 15 hours of voyage with 2 hours of stopover in Moscow… Nothing seen other that an austere airport and people carrying all the suffering of the world on their face…
In short, always nothing of nine in the East, a priori.
We arrive at the “Country of the Raising Sun” completely in bulk where we are very cordially received by Kazu, a terribly accessible type, kind of press attaché, which will accompany us during all the stay… We settle in a luxurious hotel in the district of Kinza, the Fields-Élysées of Tokyo… It's there that with place the festival, on various sites of the sector of Kinza: in the stores of the large signs (Nissan, Cartier, Vuitton…), in rooms of spectacles… or on the roof of a building in the open air, the whole under exceptional conditions. A remarkable organization with a concern of the detail and “good makes” as one is not accustomed there on our premises… (I will return there).
One day to settle, clean the pigs, to test puffs out it, to take note of the program, and to meet the managers; of paced one knows that that will not be tourist…
Their reception of most cordial, their smile and their way of working allure us continuation. One finds Miss Kei Nomoto who is at the origin of our arrival in Japan. It's N°2 of the house of disc “Plankton” and comes sometimes to Europe to make “its market”… Kei had come to see us last year at the time of a concert for the Festival of the Music with Troyes. This charming young woman of a great sympathy made an incredible job to prepare our promotion. The agreement with our two Japanese “employers” is perfect.
It's the day interviews.
We return in the sharp one of the subject dice Wednesday morning. Return in the hall to 9h00. The hour it's the hour! Each minute counts .....
it's all the precision “Seïko Casio”… (the Swiss ones, at side, are wankers!!! )
Departure for their offices located in another district; we travel by the Japanese subway. On arrival our hosts install us in a studio of recording: small furnaces, cakes, delicacies, tea, coffee,…
Four journalists will follow one another.
Presentation of Shoeï, our interpreter, the same one as Charles Aznavour. A brilliant type, impressive culture on the French song and with a humour which is well… In a word: a delicious guy. The two Milks are stuck to the interviews but sometimes the colleagues also intervene because one should not anything forget!
17h, it's the end of the hostilities. A good day filled well. We laughed however well… We jump in the taxi to join a room of spectale where the double bass rented over there awaits us for a répètition. End of the day… We take the appointments for the next morning. The day is announced hard and charged… up to 3 concerts in the course of the day.
Departure of the hotel, 9h30 for the balance
Direction the site or we will make the second concert of the day…
Oulaaah! We arrive on the roof of the building.
All is impeccably installed and nothing was forgotten. Somebody brings a coffee to us on scene; technicians any smile affairent themselves. A technician nouscommunic whom we lay out half an hour to make the sound… It is a little panic but in 20 minutes it is régléé, with a terrible sound. Nickel! We are completely bluffés!!! We leave instruments which must follow to the gallery “Nissan”, place in the first concert has a few hundred meters from there… On arrival, a small sound system awaits us and all is already in place… They are insane these Japanese. Too much strong!
We find ourselves in the large avenue of Tokyo for one day cultural. The streets were prohibited with circulation and it is soon the great flood of people. We have one hour in front of us… we benefit from it to take the air. We discover our “heads” on advertising screens. Giant ! They do not drive our Apples these Japanese!
First concert of this day ; it's 12h30.
A large hall where the Nissan last is in expo and a horde of hostess to the guard with you. In five minutes 150 to 200 Japaneses bind themselves; we attack then. Terrible this moment !!! It goes very extremely! We play one hour in front of an obviously conquered public…
Us seams to eat quickly… We do not touch with nothing, and we go then on the roof of the building for the second concert of the day. A concert has just finished and we cross crowd.

We blow in cabins where Miss Kei explains us that this concert there will be retransmitted on “NHK” on line (1st Japanese national TV) and that we will be even interviewed there.
This concert it's for tomorrow…
Today, the technicians profit from it for répèter and to refine. Wouaaah!!! The pressure goes up and there is no question of missing itself.
Kei really seems to believe in us but it should be said that it gave itself much evil. We are the only group of the festival to be entitled to the TV… Honors and… Cock-a-doodle-doo Apples'!

End in the concert, it is the pause “ciggy-bibine”…
One comes to seek us in cabins because it is necessary illico to go to dedicate the discs.
The sale is average but it is more one exchange with impassioned and other fans. The Kei following day returns with the smile to announce to us that yesterday we made the best Jazz sale of the department store of disc of the Japanese capital.
It is quite simply super !
On this, Kei announces to us that now, if there remains to us a little juice and that if the heart says to us, there is a club with the other end of the city held by a fan of Django Reinhardt. Tchavolo, Mandino & Co. already prevailed in this high place of the Mâanouche Jazz to the sign of the famous guitar jazz “Selmer”.
Miss Kei made pass information to some aficionados that perhaps… that possibly… Go hop! One is hot, one sinks there in spite of tiredness. Y' does not have to be groped during 2 lead, of the moments as that is lived upright… And us here are parties rejouer…
It is after one hour of road that we arrive at the Club “Blue Drag”. This mythical place is located at the 2nd stage. Connected the sheet-iron merchant! A score of informed people await us in a tiny place (~40m²): a small scene with 4 chairs and a double bass… Obviously we are awaited. Superb reception.
Without waiting one is used to us to drink and eat. Pfff, still to drink!?
We are received like princes. Even burst we still want to divide a little music with these specialists and fans who await us the turning. The last to have represented France here is certain Tchavolo… Eh ! There is our interpreter of the day before, our from now on large friend Shoeï. Brilliant this Japanese! He very excited, “is stuffed surely a little”… but alas, that will not be arranged during the evening… And it is very well thus !
Go the buddies one attacks in the sharp one, one sends wood! Once more environment is terrible.
And then ....., we still play a good hour and one asks then if there are friends musicians in the room who would like to divide 2 or 3 standards of Django. Ca goes illico…, one makes ox. And always a superb environment!
Towards the end of the set, “Tajima Tadashi” comes to play of the “flute japonnaise” (Shakuhachi), this flute which was useful in the music of Samouraïs. It was the flute which served for the music of the samouraïs… démerde you with that!!!
A fine furious insane flutist… Pfouh! First piece which it sends, “Sommertime”… and there, y' do not have what to laugh! It plays serious this idiot and in an unusual kind for this instrument. We all are on the bottom! David will dare to share a piece with him with the folder and Dom also…
Good, it is perhaps time to go to lay down us. We are well burst but filled (Shoeï also). Really hyper sympas these Japs! And then…, large complicity on scene…, one succés… one is a little proud to have allured once more the audience. We like to divide in all simplicity our music with the public, always in the joy and good mood, that of the life which breathes on scene and which characterizes our group well !
Saturday 10 h30, RdV in the hall of the hotel.
Concert envisaged towards 13h in a small room of spectacle. As usual, we arrive and all is already ready, even the domestic iron which one had briefly approached the day before. Famous the courbettes japonnaises has each time somebody is crossed, of the smiles to each glance. Ca seems natural, that slackens.
Adjustments, balances like the day before. They are really pros who hear just and well… They do not make only manufacture the material!
Still a good concert where we are very well accomodated. There, there is even right has a recall, which is not a habit in Japan.
On the way for the last concert, the great concert which will take place like the day before on the roof of the building in the middle of this large avenue of Tokyo.
They install us in the cabins where us spommes solicited by people of the national TV. Somebody explains us how that is déroulerer, and one makes continuation a répètition on the plate. Environment is excellent. I believe that one likes everyone much, would be this only humanly. The interpreter who is there today to translate for our answers to the screen will leave us extremely cordially with our departure… “I think that you will be re-examined. You are really sympas for French .....” says us it. (to be meditated!)
Key, which bump 20h per day, still obtained us a small favour of last minute: “If you want, this evening with the evening of closure the festival where there will be everyone, actors, organizers, TV, artists… in short, all the beautiful world of the festival, you will be able to then play two pieces”. Good, a little complicated like exercise to play in front of musicians of very pointed jazz, but shit one feels well that it is a favour and that it is still necessary to put our glawouis on the billaud. Ok Key!
“The Apples, you are the best!”.
Concerning this concert, the pressure goes up a little and tiredness is felt. One climbs on scene… The roof of the building is completely filled.
And it set out again for 1h30 of music.
It goes terrible! Perso, I collapse a little on the grand' mother.
That will not be the concert of my life… but this concert is really an excellent concert.
With the end we sell many discs; there will be many dedications after. Really, the life is beautiful! Somebody comes to seek us at the exit of the scene and we clear ourselves a passage to the plate TV located opposite this scene. In a cord of safety, we pass like stars, accompanied by smiles and compliments… That makes us hot in the middle! We make our small interview without forgetting to smile to the charming presenter ..... All is held super good.
Just time to dedicate CD, to make the interview (5mn) and to exchange some words with those which wish it… P' silvering, they already very dismounted! There remain only our barnum-cabins upright. They are insane!
In light, as soon as the finished concert, you do not know from where they leave, but that is put at grouiller and in one nothing time all is dismounted, folded, arranged… and all that with the smile.
There is really a trick which plait us here! It is unanimous.
Good, it is still necessary to hurry for the reception. We arrive late a little during the speeches. Hardly time to swallow a goblet of Champagne which one comes to seek us. I do not believe it! My double bass is installed, the peak with the 3rd notch like I put it, the regulated amplifier, the returns laid out, etc…
Somebody calls us, we settle under the applause. In 30 seconds the it and control sound engineer which each instrument leaves in the sound system and the returns… left! We chose the option not “to weaken” and to play without complexes, which will distinguish us more of the others… We open with “the Heart of the poets”, follow-up of “the Sun and the Moon” and one finish with “Tickle Toe”. Extremely well succeeded.
We receive full with compliments, including our national singer of jazz, Anne Ducros, who covers the Festival like us (Price Billie Holiday of the Academy of the Jazz in 2001, Django D' Or in 2002, Victoire Of the Music in 2002 and 2003. It has, seems it, adored. One sometimes drank glass with it with the hotel. A little diva Anne but very sympathetic nerve and with a voice…!
It really occurred a trick with these people and in very little time.
Here, 3 are drunk or 4 guns, one returns to the hotel… one reboit 3 or 4 guns, one seals our friendship with Key and Kazu, of people really extra… one reboit 3 or 4 guns .....
In fact, one was over there to defend our first album… Key do not believe to be able to sell 2nd over there… On the other hand it already bought the licence of 3rd which will leave over there in Mars 2007…
The following day we left, accompanied by Kazu which remained with us until the end. Important when it is known that it was Sunday and its only day off…
One was not far from the small tear. I believe that one has friendly again… and I believe that that exceeds the simple business… That it is the greatest richness which one brought back of the Country of the Raising Sun!!!
We really liked and appreciated their reception, their hospitality and their professionalism… It is beautiful people!

Some tofs in bulk of stolen moments…
For the small anecdote, Didier Barbo and Laurent Zeller went to eat sushis the first evening, in a small typical Japanese restaurant... They went to taste were found with the furnaces with the owner.
